The Russian-Chinese School on Mathematical Modelling and Parallel Computing is a 4-day-long course that focused on mathematical, statistical, and computational methods in medical research and life sciences. The event was organized by Sechenov University, Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology (SIAT) of the Chinese Academy of Science, and Moscow Centre for Fundamental and Applied Mathematics at INM RAS (Institute of Numerical Mathematics of the Russian Academy of Sciences).
The first lecture, ‘Basics of mathematical modelling and numerical methods’, was delivered by Sergey Simakov, Associate Professor at the Department of Mathematics, Mechanics, and Mathematical Modelling at Sechenov University. The lecture covered the main types of mathematical models expressed in terms of ordinary differential equations and partial differential equations.
The following speakers gave lectures:
- Associate Professor of the Laboratory of Engineering and Scientific Computing of the Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Chen Rongliang: Fundamentals of Parallel Computing. Introduction to the topic of parallel computing, ways to use them, as well as the history and current state of supercomputers;
- Associate Professor of the Department of Higher Mathematics, Mechanics and Mathematical Modeling, Sechenov University: Fundamentals of Parallel Computing. The topic of parallel efficiency of linear algebra algorithms for computers with shared and distributed memory was considered. As a practical part, numerical experiments with the considered algorithms on the INM RAS cluster were presented;
- Associate Professor of the Center for Biomedical Information Technology of the Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Peng Yin: Applied Statistics. Applied Statistics is intended for research students who need to design experiments and perform statistical analysis of their data. This part was mainly focused on the basic introduction of statistical concepts (lectures) and statistical applications (practice).
More than 50 people from Russia and China attended the event. The recorded lectures can be found here.
